Pill and periods

Hi,

I have been married for about a month or so but my husband and I started having sex about two weeks ago because of difficulties with my hymen and me being all stressed out about sex. Anyways we are enjoying a good sex life now. I have been taking birth control (Ortho-cyclen) for 3 months. I finished my third package on Saturday. I haven't had my period yet and with the other packages I would always get my period on the second day of placebo pills. I haven't been feeling very well. I have a lot of nausea and I feel like I want to throw up at any time. My appetite is decreased some days but other days I feel like I have a hole in my stomach. I guess my question is is this all because of the pill? Is it common to miss your period right after you have sex for the first couple of times? I had a pregnancy test on Sunday and it came out negative so I don't think I am pregnant. I guess I am just a little paranoid since my body feels so out of control. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nausea is a pretty common side effect of the pill -- especially for the first 2-4 months, but if you have been consistently experiencing nausea for three months, than you may want to call your doctor to switch pills because side effects are supposed to go away as your body adjusts. I'm assuming that you take your pills correctly at the same time every day. If you do, then I really wouldn't worry too much because it is supposed to be very effective. I've read in other places that people sometimes skip a period occasionally on birth control (I'm talking about unintentional skipping -- I know that you can skip on purpose too). I would wait another week or two and then take a pregnancy test again. When you are pregnant, you are supposed to be able to tell right after a missed period because that is approximately 14 days after you would have ovulated. However, on the pill, you are not supposed to be ovulating, so it is harder to pinpoint when you may have ovulated, if you are pregnant (it could have been at any time). You said you took a pregnancy test on Sunday, so you weren't even a day late at that point... so you may want to take another one if nothing shows up in two weeks to cover your bases. You may also want to call your doctor for his/her opinion. If you're on any other medications (like antibiotics), they could have interfered with the pill as well, so you may want to rule that possibility out, too.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your suggestions and help. Thankfully after so much stressing my period arrived last night. I need to adjust to these pills, hopefully the nausea will go away soon if not I am going to talk to the doctor. Again thanks for the support.
