Hi-
Everyone seems really enthused about the Nuva Ring. I'm planning on starting it within the next week or so. I'm a little scared though because birth control pills never seem to agree with me. Am I doomed to never be able to use hormonal birth control or is this the answer? Let me know the positives and negatives of the Nuva Ring. Thank you!

Hi there,
I used the Nuvaring for about two years and loved it. I was on the bcp for many, many years. It made me queasy if I didn't take it at night and I did have a good amount of hair loss after so many years of taking it. But other than those two issues, I was okay with it.
My sister recommended the Nuvaring to me and I never had a single problem with it. From what I understand, there's not as much hormone in it and it is very localized. It was incredibly easy to manipulate my period and my periods shortened to 3-4 days with only 1 day being relatively heavy (when not on bc, I have my period for seven days, with five of them being heavy). You can leave it in for either 3 or 4 weeks and then put another one in to skip your period or leave it out for a week if you want to have your period.
My only complaint with it - and it's really not a complaint at all - was that I had to really watch the calendar or I would just forget about it entirely...lol. There was many a time where I had to stop and think "Holy cow...is it time to change my ring?" I believe the nuvaring website has an alert that you can sign up for.
The only reason I don't use it anymore is that I decided to take the leap and get an IUD. But I'm still a nuvaring-believer!
Good luck!
