depo question

I stopped taking the depo shot about six months ago so that I could try to get pregnant. I had been taking the shot for almost seven years. What are the chances of getting pregnant before my cycle starts up again? It is not of extreme urgencency that I get pregnant, and realize it will be a while before my fertility returns. But my doctor tells me I should be taking a pregnancy test once a month even though my cycle has not started again because she has heard of women getting pregnant after they stopped taking the depo shot, but before their cycles started again, and they never knew they were pregnant until after they were already months along.

Thank You

HEY WELL MY SISTER WAS ON DEPO AND THEN WENT OFF IT SO THAT SHE COULD HAVE A BABY SHE GOT IMMEDIATLEY PREGNANT AND CARRIED IT FOR 3 MONTHS AND IT DIED AND THE SAME THING HAPPEND FOR MY NAIGHBOUR SO IN MY OPINION YOU SHOULD REALLY WAIT 6 TO 8 MONTHS BEFORE YOU TRY TO GET PREGNANT OK.. JUST A HEADS UP DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN FOR YOU!

Hello,
From what I understand, most women who try to become pg after stopping depo do so within 12 - 18 months. You can definitely ovulate before you have a period, so if I were you I'd test just to be sure.
That's just me though. As for miscarriage risk immediately after stopping depo, I personally have not heard of it. It would be nice to see a link siting research before jumping to any conclusions. Besides, it sounds like you've been off the shot for awhile.
Good luck.
TTC is exciting and I hope you get a + very soon!

Another option is to chart your fertility and BBT so you'll know when you start ovulating.

"Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler is supposed to be a really good book, so if you can get your hands on a copy, you might want to check it out.
