Another depo problem?

Ugh....

Okay, so I've been on the Depo shot since...early Dec 2004. My last shot was in Apirl 2006 and I was due for my next July 11th. I didn't go. I started depo because the bith control pill (any type of pill) makes me sick to my stomach. I can't keep it down. I've tried everything I could. Also, I don't have a sturdy schedule so I missed it alot. I couldn't handle the cramps I got either.

So I went on depo. My doctor told me about weight gain and bone loss. When I started the shot. I loved it. I stopped my period completely. I had no weight gain. I had no side effects except loss of sex drive. The last past months after I got my last shot started getting bad. My bones felt weak (I would try to take calicum 1500mg everyday), my joints pop and crack alot, and I had mild chest pain.

So since I've been off the shot, I've been waiting for my period to happen. (Shot was due July 11th). I haven't even had spot bleeding at all.

How long will it take to come back?

Also, I recently had some chest pain, and went to the emergency room. They told me I had pulled a chest muscle. They gave me ib profuen 800mg and some muscle relaxers. They helped somewhat and the pulled muscle pain is gone....but now just recently (past two weeks) I'm having chest pain and breast pain. My breasts are sore to the touch. Its all over both my breasts, on my chest, under my breasts and some soreness of the side of breasts. The heating pad seems to help a little bit. IB profuen doesnt help. The pain seems to be getting worse. My bra kills me, I can barely wear it.

Could this be a side effect of depo? I plan on see'ing my doctor soon, but I cant get in for another week or so. So I was hoping someone could tell me. Thanks.

Seeing your doctor sounds like a good idea in this situation to me, but I would guess that your problem is that your hormones are readjusting after stopping your Depo shots.

I was on depo for 2 years and switched to the mini-pill last November. I got my first period after stopping Depo this past June (about 7 months after stopping the Depo). I had MAJOR PMS symptoms the first time my period came back. I developed serious acne, my breasts were so sore and tender that even the water coming out of the showerhead was almost unbearable - and bras were extremely uncomfortable too. PMS wasn't an issue for me before, but I think that since my period was gone for so long, my body wasn't used to the hormonal changes that take place when you get your period.

I did a little research a few months back and it can take up to a year to get your period back after losing it when you go on Depo. It seems like most people experience what I did - about 6 months or so. Everyone is different, however. I'm not a doctor, so please take what I say with that in mind. If you are worried about it, see your doctor.

Hello Ashley!
I've been on Depo for four years, and I quit it back in June (Thats when I was suppose to go get my last shot) and a couple weeks ago I spotted blood for about five days (the last four years I havent had a period at all) so I guess I can consider that a period I just had this month (August) but i've also heard that it takes months for menstration to come back normally. Honestly I look forward to it! I guess it's different for every person, i've also heard of people "detoxing" depo out of their body (some sort of cleansing diet) but i'm not sure if thats effective or not...
