I went to my gyno. on August 14 to switch birth control pills. She gave me the Ortho Evra patch and told me to wait to take it until I started my period which she said should start sometime around August 28th. Well I've been waiting patiently and stressing because I just wanted to hurry up and start.

Well I had sex yesterday (with a condom) and then woke up this morning with my period. (She told me to put the patch on the day I start my period on Sunday; today) So, I'm a worry wart and I'm fearing that the bleeding this morning is implantation bleeding and not my scheduled period?!?

It might help to know that my boobs had been sore for the past week like I was approaching my period. I am just worried because my period wasn't very heavy this morning but I'm sure it could get heavier as the day goes on.

Sorry, this is probably ridiculous.

Thank you.

I do think you are worrying for no reason, because if you had sex last night, then the egg, if fertilized, could not yet have been implanted, because it can take 3 days for the fertilized egg to get to the uterus, where it implants: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/51/40790.htm

Also, if you got your period today, then it is very unlikely that you would become pregnant from sex last night because you used a condom, and because that means you ovulated two weeks ago. I know you are trying to determine whether this is in fact your period, but consider: if you were due to have your period on August 28 (and you're close to being right on time), then that would also mean you ovulated two weeks ago, so your chances of pregnancy are very slim.

You could always take a home pregnancy test to rule out any worry. If what you are experiencing *is* implantation bleeding, the hormone that pregnancy test tests for is in your system, so you'll have a good chance of getting accurate results.

Everything seems to being going fine with the patch and I like it so far. I think that I will always be too nervous to have intercourse without a condom. I know that the birth control is like 99% effective and I was wondering what causes it too fail when used without a condom? Would that just be if I forgot to change my patch or something like that?

So just to make sure, if he ejaculated inside of me, on the birth control I should not get pregnant, correct?

And I would or would not be protected the week I go without a patch?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thank you.

Thanks for your response.

Sorry, this is my last question, I promise.

We had sex tonight without a condom, well, because we had run out. I started the patch on Sunday ( the day my period started) and he pulled out before ejaculating tonight during intercourse (which was very very short, and I'm sure that probably has no relevance.) (I know that there is always a chance of the precome getting someone pregnant.) I was just wondering if you think I would be ok and not at a huge risk? I thought it would be ok because it says with a Sunday start and on the same day as your period, no back up contraception is needed.

Thanks again!
