IUD problems

I had a Mirena IUD inserted on August 9. I immediately started bleeding. Last week I spotted (only had to use a panty liner or nothing at all) and completely stopped for 36 hours on Friday/Saturday. I am now bleeding heavy again (enough to use a super tampon). The phamplet says to call my provider if the bleeding becomes heavy after it has been light for awhile. Does this consitute heavy or do they mean darn near hemmoraging? I called my doctor after a week and a half of bleeding because I was too tired to stay awake during the day and I was depressed. They told me to take a multivitamin and that I have to deal with it.
Did anyone experience this and did your doctor do anything to stop it or did it eventually stop on it's own?
I can deal with having the blues for the week I have my period normally but this 3 1/2 weeks is physically and mentally killing me.

mmmm....i hope it's nothing! maybe it's your period now??? but if you feel drained physically i'd call the dr. that is never a good sign. you probably have low iron & you'll need to get that back up. i've experienced hemmoraging after my sons birth & i know all about feeling extremly drained. dr can prescribe a very high dose of iron for you however if the IUD is causing too much bleeding like that - that's not a good sign. call dr again to get checked out. or maybe the hormones are causing the bleeding & that will subside in a few months - i had lots of spotting nearly constantly when i first got on depo. i currently have the copper IUD (only got inserted yesterday).

Hi dell1262006,

You have only had your Mirena for around three weeks, so chances are that things will settle down soon.
