IUD bleeding

I got a Paragard 3 weeks ago, and stopped spotting and cramping 2 days after. No problems since then. I know bleeding is normal, but this seems odd to me. The last day or two I've had bleeding that is a lot heavier than spotting, but stops and starts so it isn't my period. Any ideas? I thought I was done with this since I had almost 3 weeks without blood. (my period could be due soon but I was on the pill before) Now I have a gush every few hours, then nothing. Thanks everyone!

Think I figured it out. This is just how my first period with the Paragard started. Odd though. It's going ok. Not too many cramps, but I had to buy Ultra tampons because I was soaking through any other ones in an hour or two!

Good that you figured that out! That's pretty much how my periods have been since I got paragard also. The first three days are very light/spotty, then a heavy 4th and 5th day. No cramps for me either though, so that's good. :)

I'm on my 5th day so we'll see how this goes. Naturally, I was 6 days. On the pill I was 5 days until I started taking meds that interfered with my protection (why I got an IUD int he first place) and started getting 8-11 day periods! Thanks for the feedback.

Hey how is your period doing? Still heavy or has it lightened up and are you feeling alright? I think I am gonna try to get the Paragard next spring when I change my insurance so I just wanted to hear your update and see how you were doing and liking this IUD. :-)

You mentioned you got it because of medication interfering with b/c. Now since you have the IUD, do you like it better than the pill?

My IUD period has been a week and looks like it's almost over. About 6 days of it were intense heavy (used Ultra tampons for about 3-5 hours). Now, it's mostly spotty and I can use Normal tampons. So, my period is about the same length and a lot heavier. It's supposed to calm down a bit after the first few months. I think I could handle it even if it didn't though.

I like the IUD much better than the pill. Just knowing there are no hormones in me is great. I also like that no medications can interfere with it. In one year I was on antibiotics 3 times, and had to take 2 long-term meds for migraines that interfered. So, we were stuck using condoms anyways! What's the point in that? No pills to take or refill, or condoms to buy. The upfront cost sucked (no insurance), but even so it works out to be 1/4 the cost of the pill over 10 years. I may even keep it that long.

I didn't realize how much I hated the pill until I got off of it. I was bloated, headachy, and crabby for about a whole month. It was like all the PMS I never got! lol

Thanks for asking how I was doing. I hope you find something that works well for you. =)

I had the paragard for several months a year or so ago and your experience sounds just like mine. I got a period after 2 weeks totally out of place as well- I figured it was my body getting rid of the hormones coming off the pill and after that my period got right on track about every 4 weeks. Hang in there- it is probably nothing- just give it a few days.

Good luck
