... was just wondering if any of you are familiar with what PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) is, and if anyone here has experience with Yaz bcp.

I have a severe case of PMDD, it hasn't been touched by any antidepressants. I have begged my gyn to remove my ovaries... but that's way too invasive, not to mention a controversial ways of relieving PMDD symptoms.

I'm going to be talking to my gyn on Fri about trying out Yaz, I have read that it's a bcp that is being used to try to treat women who have severe PMDD symptoms.

At first I was very hesitant in trying a birth control pill for this, being that I was on a few pills before my second child was conceived, and my mood swings were HORRIBLE on them, and that was way before the PMDD even existed. But now, I'm thinking... Okay, this Yaz pill is actually being used on women with PMDD, I think it's time to try it.

Mind you, this isn't for bc reasons. I have had the Essure procedure done back in 12/04, so I don't need the birth control. This will strictly be for the PMDD. I really pray that it works. I can't even begin to tell you how bad the PMDD is for me. Let's just say that I want to die every month. :( I have two children and a husband who need me, and I'm ready to try this.

For those who are on Yaz... are you having any problems with major side effects such as mood swings? I realize that everyone is different, so the way you react to something isn't necessarily the way I would react. I just want some opinions and experiences...

Thanks...
V

Nope. No mood swings on Yaz. I'm not taking it for PMDD, but I haven't had any problems. Everyone is different, but it sounds like it's worth a try for you. Good luck!

I'm not taking Yaz for PMDD, either, but I can discuss the mood swings issue. I was on some pills before this one, and had horrible mood swings on one, and just severe, constant crying on another. It was awful and I didn't want to try another pill, but then I switched doctors this year (off birth control for 1.5yrs) and this one seemed a lot more understanding and encouraged me to try Yaz and I'm glad I did. I have had very little trouble with side effects -- mostly the standard stuff like nausea and dizziness within the first few days of taking it, and my period is much lighter. Also, before Yaz, I had really bad cramps before my period, and now I have barely any... I am sure your symptoms are much worse because I have never been diagnosed with PMDD, but my cramps were bad enough to keep me in bed for two days a month, and sometimes, to make me throw up.

Anyway, the one semi-negative thing I would like to mention is that on the pill, I find that if something starts me crying (something that would normally make me cry, like a fight with my boyfriend, or something), I usually cry more and longer than I did before I got on the pill. I'm pretty emotional anyway, and I don't think the difference is noticable to anyone but me. I've lived with my roommate for two years in a row, and she hasn't noticed any changes in the past few months. =)

Good Luck! I really hope it works for you!!

Thanks so much to both of you for your responses. I really do hope that Yaz can help me. I figure, what the heck, I won't lose anything by trying.

THANK YOU!
