How effective is the mini-pill?

Hello

I have been taking the mini-pill for nearly 6 years. I was unable to take the combined pill due to severe migraines. I was taking micronor for 5 years while living in the United Kingdom and Nora-B for 1 year since living in the US although my doctor tells me they are both the same thing (progesterone-only). Lately I've been wondering how effective the Nora-Be is. My gynacologist recently told me that I shouldn't be getting any periods while taking the pill, but I have always had a regular 28 day cycle. In addition to this I've read that you know when your ovulating by checking the consistancy of the cervical mucus (When it's wet, stringy and clear it's nearing time for ovulation). I've been getting this change in discharge every month. Does this mean that I am ovulating? I thought the mini-pill prevents ovulation. Does anyone know if the effectiveness of the mini-pill varies between women?

I've also been experiencing side effects too such as veinyness in my breasts, hands and legs. Has anyone else experienced this effect from taking the mini-pill?

Thanks for reading,
C :-)

Hi summer_ivy,

The effectiveness of the mini-pill is a little less than the combined pill, but if you have been taking it for six years and haven't had a scare, obviously it's working.

Many women still get regular pills on the mini-pill, so don't worry about that.

The mini-pill only prevents ovulation around 50% of the time.
