Hello -

I have been on birth control pills for 5 years and have never missed a pill. When I do have my period it is generally very light or not at all. Just recently I missed the first two pills of my 28 pack. I doubled up on the pills I missed, but had unprotected intercourse on days 7 and 8 of the pack. What is the likelihood that I may be pregnant? I have been having pms like symptoms (abdominal and back aches) all week. When would be the best time to take a pregnancy test? If I am pregnant, are there risks associated with being on the pill and being pregnant?

Thank you!

Jill -

In general, how long does it take for hormone levels to adjust back to normal? I am surprised that missing two pills could have such a cumulative effect on an otherwise regulated cycle. Although, after a week of taking placebos.., then missing two could jump start your cycle early .. I would just think your body doesn't have that type of reaction time after being regulated for so long. And so, what is the overall effect then of doubling up on missed pills?

Thanks!
