what works well for you?

Hello~
I'm new to ivillage and can't believe how much I love it already!
I'm just starting to research different types of birth control pills and patch's and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at all of the options. I've never been on bc, but I've heard scary stories of women who can't seem to find one that works well for them. Would appreciate your input on different types of pills and patch's and the side affects that you have experienced from them. Any other tips would be fantastic!
Thanks, KN.

Hi keriln, welcome!
Jill
Hello and welcome,
If you've read the FAQs and other resources sent to you by the other posters, then you've probably got more info than you even bargained for. But, if not, I thought I could share my experiences.
The first BC I ever used was Depo. At first I thought it was great, I had nothing to remember and no periods. Great. But then I became really moody and gained a lot of weight. That was really unplesant. I could not take it anymore, so I got off of Depo.
It took almost a year for the depo side effects to be gone. Then I tried the mini-pill. I forget the brand, but I did not like the pill at all. I had a really hard time remembering to take the pill, and constantly traveling to different time zones didn't make it any easier. I was constantly stressing that I hadn't taken the pills corretly and worried about getting pregnant, so that didn't last too long either.
Finally, I tried Minera, and now paragard. In the end, being hormone free is just the best thing for me. I love paragard. I never have cramps or any side effects, which is great. Minera was decent for me as well, but I still had some moodiness and weight gain.
So that's my two cents. I hope you find what works for you.
