yasmin and moodiness?

Hi ladies,

I have not been on this board for a very long time as I came off of birth control (Yasmin) last summer when my relationship ended. Well, so it happens me and my boyfriend got back together at end of the year and I just started Yasmin two sundays ago. Here is my question: has anyone ever experienced moodiness while on Yasmin? I feel like about 4 days after started Yasmin (this was last Thursday), I started to feel very moody and becoming very aggrevated towards my boyfriend. Ever since we got back together, things have been GREAT, we went on a vacation this summer together and even spent 10 weeks apart during which our relationship just got stronger. Little things that never used to bother me before, like him going out to eat with his colleagues after work and other really small things just started to bother me and these small issues have escalated into fights. It just feels like my moodiness/short temper with him coincides with me starting the pill. Any help/input/opinions would be really appreciated as always, you have been of great help in the past!

I have never personally used Yasmin but my sister has been using it for well over a year now, and YES it does cause moodswings. She often gets very moody at times and even admits that she knows that its the Pill thats causing it, but she doesn't want to switch because it does give her any other side effects besides that, and gets a light flow, and minimal cramping.

All I can say is to use this pill with caution!

I used Yasmin a few years ago and couldn't take it for more than a few weeks as I felt like I could literally kill someone while I was on it.

Thanks ladies...one more thing, I know once hormones level out a little bit, some side effects like breast tenderness will go away. I am wondering if that could also be the case with this moodiness I am having?

I think your right, I have always been an easy going person until 6 weeks ago when I started to take Yas. Even my BOSS noticed my moods and to be honest Im like really hateful now too. Its horrible and I hope after the 3 month period it goes away if not Ill have to stop taking it. I think this is normal, I'm 37 and haven't been on birth control since my first son was born in 1993. But after reading alot of info I think we'll be fine in a few months if not sooner. Just explain to your boyfriend like I did my husband (its this or back to using condoms!) My husband willing to wait it out and see if things change after using condoms for 16 years.

I am happy to report that after the 2nd week of yasmin, my moodiness has leveled out. I am not sure if it will come back once I start a new pack on Sunday, but hopefully not. The first 2 weeks were AWFUL, I was snappy and teary eyed all the time and it just isnt any way to live. Right now everything is great and I couldnt be happier with Yasmin but we will see once I start the new pack! Glad to know there are others who also experience these side effects and it isnt all in my head. Keep me updated on how you progress with it!

From my own extensive research, I've learned that birth control pills actually deplete B vitamins. Ironically, these are the ones responsible for your mood, so this would explain any mood-related problems people have with the pill. I've never been on Yasmin. However, I was on Brevicon and became depressed. I started taking a B complex vitamin with it and I felt immediately better. I'd recommend giving it a try.
