What does everyone think about implanon. Who you use it or would you wait a while longer because it just got approved by the FDA?

I wouldn't worry about Implanon because it was only recently approved--it's been used in other countries for a number of years and is the same type of technology as Norplant, before Norplant went off the US market.

Personally, I wouldn't use it because I can't tolerate that progestin and I need estrogen. ;)

Hi,
I would use it now. I used Norplant and loved it. This is similar but NOT the same as Norplant. I have already signed up on the Implanon website to be notified when doctors in my area become trained on the insertion of Implanon.
Implanon has been used with great success, in my opinion, in many other countries, and I am not afraid to try it. I feel that it is a better alternative than depo, which I am currently using.
For the next 6+ months, I will be using progestin only birth control because I am breastfeeding…unless I can talk dh into trying for another little one:)

In the Netherlands (where I live) women have used Implanon for quite some time, I have heard alot of negative stories about! It is essential that the doctor inserts Implanon correctly. Some women became pregnant because it wasn't inserted correctly in their arm and they actually sued the manufacturar and the doctors. I have also heard that it can be really difficult to remove it, and sometimes surgery is the only way to remove it.
