IUD and Depression
| Wed, 10-04-2006 - 11:06am |
I had an IUD put in 6 weeks postpartum. About 6 weeks later I started having some depression and anxiety. I did however return to work 4 week post and at 6 weeks post I had to have gall bladder surgery. I BF and after the surgery I have had problems with my milk supply. I am also under some stress at work and with finances.
ANYWAY, I was wondering if anyone else may have experienced some depressive side effects from an IUD. I am seeing my OB/GYN on the 13th to get some answers, but was wondering if anyone else was having problems, or had it removed due to problems like these.
THanks, KIM

Hi kmdrain9597, welcome!
Jill
Since the Mirena releases the progesterin directly into the uterus, I wouldn't think it would have a major effect as far as causing depression. I have the Mirena and have had absolutely no problems with depression.
I bet it has more to do with post-partum issues. It's not usual for women to feel depressed in the months following the birth of a child.
Best wishes to you!
