Was on YAZ for not quite a pack, btb everyday, (which wasn't a surprise to me as I never did well in the past on the low low dose pills-Ortho Tricyclen Lo, Alesse), told by dr. to stop this past Wed and start with Ovcon 35 on Sunday. When the nurse called me back with the Drs. suggestion for a pill choice she said that she had samples in a chewable form that were just dropped off by a sales rep. and did I want to try the samples or should she call in a script? Well, I was caught off guard. I don't know if I like the idea of a chewable bcp. I know if I swallow a pill with water, it will be absorbed and not stuck in my teeth or on my tongue, etc.! Needless to say, I opted for the script.
Has anyone out there tried chewables? What did you think?

never heard of a chewable BCP. I did read that if you chew up the regular pill that it is not as effective....but who knows if what you read is really true?
I'm curious about this also.
With the chewable Ovcon 35, you chew it but also follow it with an 8 ounce glass of water to make sure you wash all the particles out of your teeth.
I'd say that if someone has trouble taking pills they'd be better off taking something like nuvaring or an IUD or the patch, rather than an oral method. In my personal opinion, the pills are nearly unnoticeable when you take them, since they are so small, however I suppose some people may have a harder time with that.
My concern with the chewables is that you need to drink a large glass of water afterwards. This is fine if you're at home and on your own terms, but there are plenty of times i'm in my car or at a store or somewhere that a drink wouldn't be readily available for taking the pill. It's nice to jsut be able to pop the pill down quick and not worry that i'm going to lose effectiveness because particles were stuck in my teeth.
Seems like overkill to me, but then again, I dont have trouble with swallowing pills...
