affects of aspirin on flow

I take a combo pain pill for my migraines that includes aspirin a couple times a week, so, I end up taking it several times during my period. I've read that aspirin can increase your bleeding. Is it a really siginificant amount? I think the medication has the equivilant of one or two aspirin in it, and I take one capsule of it a couple times during my period. Just wondering if it is important enough to call my neuro to switch to the tylenol-containing one...hadn't really thought of this until today at the gyno. She was saying that my IUD periods could still shorten or reduce in flow in the next few months as I've only had two. (crossing fingers) If it would actually make a difference, why not.

She also mentioned that Ibuprofin taking during your period can also reduce flow, besides being best for cramps. I really don't get cramps, so don't bother taking anything...I'll have to give that a try too. She recommended up to 800mg.

I take one regular strength aspirin every day to counteract the side effects of another medication, and I haven't noticed any difference in my period. However, a number of years ago, I hurt my back and took rx strength ibuprofen and did notice a reduction in flow, but not enough to consider continuing it for that purpose. If you want to try it, I would just make sure your gyno knows about the meds containing aspirin. Both are in the same larger group of meds, and may have a negative cumulative effect.

I can testify for the ibuprofen effect on "flow"....It works if you take the right amount....600mg every 6-8 hours (I take it between 4-6 hours) of ibuprofen helps ease my flow and greatly helps cramps...so if you can take ibuprofen (aren't sensitive to it and it won't interact with your other meds) try it....my OB/GYN told me about that combo years ago and it's a lifesaver. You gotta take it regularly to keep it working through your period week though....good luck....
