Age limits on the pill

Has anyone out there thought at what age you feel you will stop taking bcps? I will be 44 at the end of the year and am pondering this question. I have noticed that as I am getting older, I am having more problems taking the pill, mainly btb, spotting, irregular bleeding, choose what you want to call it. I have been on a variety of pills over the years, Ortho-Cyclen being my favorite but after many years the bleeding started. Since then in the past year I have taken LoOvral, YAZ (odd choice, but tried it at my Drs. suggestion), just started Ovcon 35. Sincerely thinking of stopping all together if the Ovcon 35 doesn't work to my liking. I do not take it for contraception, just for period relief (which I don't always get, just as heavy and a long as ever) and regularity (I admit to being spoied, like to plans outings around it), as well as the posted health benefits.
Thanks!

definately something to talk w/your dr about....I agree that I'd start thinking about when to come off it...I'm 35 (almost 36) and was on the pill from like 18-31 and then for 8 months after having my baby.I then went to an IUD and LOVED IT.My periods went from heavy and painful to just spotting a few days as a period.(didn't happen overnight-but it does happen sooner for some women-it took about 1 year or so for my periods to get to where I was just spotting a few days)About 5 months ago I had a tubal/ablation and I have had one major period the rest have been just spotting 3+ days for a period.I absolutely love it!!! Whatever you choose I hope you have good luck....
**a hot water ablation like I had is where they circulate heated water in the uterus and it kinda "kills" the lining so your periods won't be as heavy. Now you have to be absolutely sure you're done having kids cause getting pregnant after an ablation can be dangerous....
May I ask please what you liked so much about Ortho Cyclen?
My gyn has me on this (been on it a month) since I complained to her I've been feeling moody/grumpy-- she said it will help. I was on Ortho Cept for the last five years or so. So far I cannot tell a difference. I know it takes time. I'd be happy to hear what you liked so much about Ortho Cyclen.
I'm sorry I cannot help you with your question. I'd be interested to know the answer too. The leaders of this board are awesome and full of knowledge so I'm sure they'll be able to help you.
Thank you.
Hi,
I'm 40 and my doctor told me I could continue taking the pill right up till menopause. He said I may not notice menopause symptoms on the pill but to watch for hot flashes (which I've been getting off and on for years). Actually, I get far fewer hot flashes (I'm talking maybe one per month) while on the pill.
I just recently (3 months ago) started Seasonale. At first I thought it was the worst decision I ever made since I bled 3 or 4 pads worth every day for at least 9 weeks. Then it tapered off and I am now at week 12 and have stopped bleeding all together. I did notice right away that almost all of my period/PMS/ovulation stuff went away. Except for breast tenderness. But that's getting better. I still spot here and there but don't even need a pantiliner as it's so light and non staining. But it's great to have no cramps, fatigue, bloating, IBS, and painful urination. I don't take it for BC either.
Anyways, just thought I would let you know what I am doing.
Oh, and I'm taking it continuously with no breaks for periods unless I want to. The doctor said in 6 or 8 months, if I start to bleed, just stop taking the pills for a few days to have a period.
Apricot.
