Ovcon 35 discontinued?

Hey all,

Just FYI... I went to refill my Ovcon 35 prescription today and it turns out, as of 9/28, it was discontinued by the manufacturer! I wasn't given any notice, so it was a surprise... fortunately, I have a couple months' supply left. Still, I'm slightly irritated that I didn't hear anything from my doc or my prescription company. :(

Going to call my doc tomorrow to try to switch to something else. Bleh.

Hi Becky,

Just a short note, I filled a script for Ovcon35 this past Wed 10/5 and nothing was mentioned about it being discontinued. In fact, I was just switched to this pill by my Dr. and the nurse told me that a sales rep was just in dropping off samples of chewables and asked she me if I wanted to try a sample - something new. I opted for the script. The insert with my pills did mention that they had a new look 21 light peach active pills and a 7 day period of white inert pills in a credit card style pack.

Good luck, maybe your pharmacy is just discontinuing dispensing them???

I also read that Barr Labs is coming out with a generic for Ovcon (the first, it didn't have a generic previously) sometime this month, it will be called Balziva.

Thanks ladies!

I called my doc this morning and they said almost the exact thing that you did: they're discontinuing the non-chewable Ovcon 35. Supposedly the chewable is the same as the non-chewable version, and my doc's going to switch my prescription.

It kind of makes sense, but is there really a demand for chewable BCPs?!

Maybe not as much as being a demand for the chewables as it is just easier for the company to make one kind of pill formulation rather than one that is specifically chewable and one that is to be swallowed. If the chewable can be swallowed whole as well as chewed, and be used correctly either way, they might as well just make the chewable variety and people can choose which method they prefer...

So, the chewable is just as effective as the regular kind? Thursday is my last active day, so I'll be refilling soon! Do I just tell the pharmacy to switch my script, or the doctor?

I was reading this thread and was wondering if Ovcon 35 works the same weather or not you chew it up or swallow it whole.....then why cant you chew other BCP? Is their something in the makeup of Ovcon 35 that makes it ok to chew it up that is not in other pills?

ie...how effective is this pill chewed up compaired to if you chewed up any other form of BCP's?
