Ovcon 35 discontinued?

Hey all,

Just FYI... I went to refill my Ovcon 35 prescription today and it turns out, as of 9/28, it was discontinued by the manufacturer! I wasn't given any notice, so it was a surprise... fortunately, I have a couple months' supply left. Still, I'm slightly irritated that I didn't hear anything from my doc or my prescription company. :(

Going to call my doc tomorrow to try to switch to something else. Bleh.

What we're talking about in this thread is a type of pill that was designed specifically to be chewed.

After doing some research,I had my doctor change my bcp from Necon to Ovcon 35. I have had absolutely no libido and thought changing to the Ovcon 35 might help.

The nurse gave me a sample pack and faxed a prescription to my insurance Express Scripts for 3 months supply via mail order.

Express Scripst left a message stating they could not fill this rx due to on backorder, with no expected available date.

So, determined to find out, I called the company and they said it is because it is now called Ovcon 35 Fe in chewable form.

I then called my insurance back. Once I was specific with the name, I found out they do have this one, but knows nothing about the generic. Heck, my doctor's office didn't even know about generic nor the new chewable form and they have a drug rep. come in quite often!

Determined for answers, I finally CALLED Barr Laboratories about the generic "Balziva" and they said they were shipping them out to suppliers in 2 weeks.

IF someone finds the generic can you please post to this thread?
("gosh, I didn't realize how many calls I have made to get nowhere) LOL

Also, would you switch to the generic Balziva? Sometimes I'm leary about generics.

The only reason I'm on BCPs if for perimenopausal symptoms, expecially the oily hair/acne and excessive sweating and every other symptom related. I have had absolutely no sex drive for a while and the Necon didn't help.

And btw, has anyone gained weight with the Ovcon? I read the book "Sreaming To Be Heard" and the Ovcon was the most mentioned for perimenopausal women.

Thanks for listening to my rambling! This is my first time posting to this site but I'm determined to try to find some answers and possibly help others!
