depo questions

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I had 2 depo shots and decided it's something I never ever want to do again. I was scheduled for my third shot August 22nd, but I didn't go. I've been having all sorts of pain since getting the shot. My joints ache most of the time. I wake up every morning feeling nauseated. And the worst part is, I've gained over 20lbs. My question is how long does it usually take for your body to get back to normal. My period still hasn't started and I'm afraid it won't for a long time. Nothings changed, I can't lose the weight, my body still hurts, and I still feel sick to my stomach. I'm still on an emotional rollercoaster. I look in the mirror and I don't even see myself. It sounds dumb, but I don't even feel like a woman anymore. I think that has alot to do with not having periods. I see myself as this monster who use to be me. Now I'm not trying to throw myself a pity party, but I'm hurt. I tried to talk to my husband about this and he said he thinks it's all psychological. It's all in my head and I let myself gain weight and just need somthing to blame. I can't even begin to explain how hurtful that was. As I said before, any advice is greatly appreciated. I know I'm not the only woman dealing with these issues, I guess I just have to hear it to really believe it.

It's not all in your head, there are a lot of women out there with the same problems with Depo.

Thank you for your response. It makes me feel so much better knowing that I'm not alone. I shouldn't complain too much, it seems you had it alot worse than I do. It's crazy to think that after so many women suffered awful side effects, doctors still recommend depo to their patients. I just really want my body back but from what I hear, I have a long wait ahead of me. Thank you so much for your support (it made my day that much better!!)

Hi. Thank you for your response. Alot of what you said sounded pretty familiar. The rage, the moodswings, being completely irrational. Sometimes I think I try to pick fights with my husband. I take out alot of my frustration on him. Maybe it would be different if he were more understanding. It's heartbreaking when your husband won't even touch you because he's so turned off by your body. I didn't know it would be so long before I get my body back to normal. It's sad knowing so many women go through this too, but at the same time it's comforting. If that makes any sense at all. Thank you for your help and information.

It is far from dumb, and actually I'm almost relieved to see your post, because I have had the same problem. I didn't gain that much weight, but I have gained a few pounds. I got 2 shots and stopped after that, and it's been 2 months and still no period. I don't feel much like a woman either, and I've been moody and having anxiety problems to the point where I was having heart palpitations and my doctor prescribed me Ativan. I can't seem to lose this weight either, some of it is probably still baby weight from having my son, but it didn't all burn off yet. I'm eager to try a combination pill to regulate my cycle again, but I can't do that cause I'm still breastfeeding my son 3 times a day or so. It's frustrating, but I suppose we'll get through it.

That's good you didn't gain too much weight because it's really hard to lose. I'm going on 6 months since my last shot and I don't have my period yet. I heard it could take up to 18 months to start. Hearing that almost makes me want to cry. I've been having a weird heartbeat for the past month. I thought maybe I was drinking too much caffine, or about to have a stroke or something. I never thought it could be linked to depos evil. I considered taking pills to regulate my cycles, but I think I need to just let my body get itself back to normal. Thanks for your response, and good luck to you!
