Hi everyone, I have a serious problem. I had unprotected sex with my ex for the past two nights. Today I got into an argument with him and he told me that he hopes I'm pregnant cause he knows thats the last thing that I want. And when I asked him why he said that he said because theres a good chance that I will be after last night. I'm not on birth control because of the side effects and he knows that. So I called my Dr. and got him to call in the morning after pill to my pharmacy. So I was wondering if anyone has taken it before and what I should expect if I decide to take it.

Hi alice0186, welcome!

If you have used BCPs before you might have similar side effects; nausea, bloating, cramps and irregular bleeding from the large dose of progestin in Plan B. And, your next several cycles may be thrown off a bit.

There could be some side effects from taking Plan B, but that shouldn't be enough to keep you from taking it. There's a lot more side effects involved with pregnancy. If you don't want to become pregnant, you need to take Plan B as soon as possible. It's not foolproof, and the best chance to avoid pregnancy is to take is as quickly as you can after having unprotected sex.

You should also make sure you use some type of birth control in the future. Even if you're not able to stand the pill, there's other options out there. Many women who can't tolerate the pill can use the NuvaRing. At the very least you can use condoms, preferably with spermicide. If your boyfriend doesn't want to use condoms, you might remind him that it's much easier than having to spend the next 18 years of his life paying child support.

Thank you for your advice. Luckily I was able to get the pill and take it by 6pm on Friday. I also was lucky and did not have any side effects besides tiredness. I am planning on taking Yaz after my next period. Its been sitting on my dresser for the past two months and I haven't taken it yet because the last two BC pills I tried gave me bad side effects. If this one gives me a problem then I'll look into Nuva Ring. One more thing I swithched gynos two months ago. So when I needed the morning after pill I called my new Dr. and he already left the office (1pm on Fri). So the answering service basically told me I was out of luck and would have to wait till monday (obvously that would be too late). So I called my old Dr. and thankfully his secretary called the RX in for me. The reason I am sharing this is because I think it is absolutly ridiculous that when I called my new Dr. they told me that it wasn't considered an emergency and counld't page the Dr. therefore they couldn't call in the RX. I bet this happens to women all the time. Does anyone know where women could go to get the pill in a case like this?
