Paraguard Users Without Children......

Hey,
I'm considering getting a Paraguard IUD. I have never had a child, and have read and heard conflicting things on whether women who have not had children should have an IUD inserted.
If you have used or are using a Paraguard IUD and have not had children...
1. How was the insertion? Was it painful?
2. On a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best), how much do you love your IUD? Why?
THANKS!
~Kat

I've had mine 3 months, and no kids.
1. How was the insertion? Was it painful?
It felt like really bad cramps and uncomfortable for a couple minutes. Take some Ibuprofin beforehand (800mg), but it's over pretty fast. It helps to have the doctor talk you through it.

8-The protection is great and worry free, but I get cramps with my period which I never got before, and it's longer and heavier. Supposed to get better with time. Nothing I'd want to get it taken out for though.
I'm using Mirena and haven't had children. Insertion wasn't bad at all. I took ibuprofen before. It was a strange sensation when they inserted it, but not pain. I had some cramping for about two days afterwards that was controlled with painkillers. Even though I'd taken the day off work just in case, I was completely fine within a couple of hours and even had sex that same night.
My experiences with Mirena are different than a Paragard, but in terms of convenience and not having to worry about birth control, I'd rate my IUD a 10. It was always such a hassle having to remember to take a pill every day. I love the idea of not having to do a thing (except check the strings every now and then) for the next few years.

I have had the Mirena IUD for 10 months and I've never had children. The insertion was VERY painful for me. Probably the worse pain, I've ever dealt with. I think the big reason was because I've never had kids. BUT I will tell you now looking back - the pain was worth it! I LOVE THE IUD!!
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 9. The only thing I don't like is that I no longer have the hormones from the pill helping to control my acne problem.
Hello,
I have had a copper IUD for the past year and a half and have not had children. The insertion did hurt quite a bit, but not for long and it was bearable. I did have cramps for the next few days, but once again it was ok. In my opinion it was all well worth it. I love not having hormones in my body! The pill (and I tried many) caused me to be a hormonal trainwreck. The IUD allows me not to have to deal with these side effects and I don't have to think about it on a daily basis. My period is heavier than when I was on the pill and I also have more cramps, but I still say it is worth it! (Love it 8 out of 10).
