Yaz and leg cramps

So far so good with Yaz. This is the end of my third month, and I haven't had anymore spotting (yay!). The only really weird thing that's happening now is that I get these terrible charley horses. My hamstrings and the arches of my feet are cramping in the same manner, too. Could this be related to the Yaz, and if so should I be concerned? It didn't start until I started taking bcp.

Thanks!

Just my $0.02 but when my sister came of Yasmin, she got this ridiculous pot-belly and her stomach hurt like crazy ... she is a small person, 5'6" and *maybe* 118 lbs, and the swelling was very noticeable. This effect was caused by coming off the Pill (the progestin in Yasmin can act like a diuretic for some people), which caused her to retain water. It lasted just under a week and then she was fine. I myself just came off Yasmin and have not had that problem, but perhaps water retention is causing your foot swelling? It's just a thought anyway.

Best of luck!

I'm glad to hear I wasn't just a freak. It sounds like a lot of people had the same experience I did to varying degrees.

My doctor did blood work and everything, but they never found anything. I suppose it's possible that there might have been something wrong that wouldn't show up on those tests. Some folks have suggested that it might just have been an electrolyte imbalance. I don't know.

It took some time for the cramps to stop happening. Mine were very much like a Charley Horse. They were painful but intermittent. I would say they eased significantly after a couple of weeks and were gone completely in two months at most. I took Yaz for three months, though. I'm sure you'll feel better shortly. I haven't had the same problem on Loestrin.

Good luck with your leg pain! It sounds like you have a doctor who is listening to your problems, and I think that's half the battle with most health issues! I hope you're feeling better soon!

Water retention could definitely be it. I'm sorry to hear of your sister's difficulties. Thanks for that though, I hadn't thought of it. Us and our most complicated bodies, right?! Best, Ivy

Thanks so much for writing right back. The electrolyte imbalance makes sense too. The pain subsided a little tonight, so I'm grateful to you and the other women who replied to my post (and I'm loving my electric heating pad from Walgreen's.)

Also, your Charley Horse description applies. When people ask what the pain is like, from now on I'll equate it with that, so thanks!

Best of luck to you on the Loestrin. All these drugs are tricky (to put it mildly.) When the hell will they come out with that pill for men?! It's been talked about for years, but of course, never made available.

I too, am glad to know I'm not some freak of nature. We are not alone in our pain! Best, Ivy
