First day pill free, IUD on its way

I took my last and final ortho tri-cyclen last night!! I have been on the pill for 7 years now, and during that period developed a non related cyst in my kindey's and have been battling blood pressure issues related to that since. Medically decided to drop the pill from my daily pill case to help the blood pressure. At 33 I am taking a daily diuretic and calcuim channel blocker for life. Will be going in next Friday for a paraguard IUD insertion. What 10 years without worry? Who could argue that. Hello menopause any day now I am ready.

However I am very nervous about the pain factor, I have 3 great kids, 2 tattoo's and have been thru cryosurgery twice. And I worry about pain? Also any thoughts on these massive periods I am reading about and worries on adult acne coming back without the pill.

Thanks in advance for your support and comments!

I have 2 kids and had a Paragard and although the insertion was painful it only lasted about 2 minutes and that was it. It does not compare to childbirth- you will be fine. Take some ibuprophen before you go just for cramps and such and try to relax as much as possible. I was doing a lot of lamaze type breathing, LOL. I had some minor cramping afterwards but nothing to make me complain, I drove myself home and went on with my day like normal, and a bit of spotting for a few days. My period came early - only 2 weeks after stopping the pill and I was a little freaked but I think that it was just hormones working themselves out. After that my periods were suprisingly regular. My periods were MONSTERS but I liked all the other benefits so much that I put up with it. Just follow your doctor's suggestions for tampon use etc. Mine was so heavy that I just used mega pads because I would have been changing tampons so much, it lasted about 8 days from spotting through heavy flow to spotting and done. As far as the acne thing- I have had acne my whole life and going off the pill has not made it worse, I actually felt like when I got off the hormones it improved, especially my roseaca- of course everyone is different and that is my experience. Good luck!

my experience when I got my IUD....it hurt but it was more like lots of pressure "down there" (I had a deadening shot down there).Ibuprofen can help if you can take it.Had some cramping on and off for a while after first getting IUD....And yeah periods for some women can be heavier after first getting the IUD-mine were for about the first 3 months or so....and then again some women don't have this....guess you never know which one you'll get....LOL GOOD LUCK....
