Bleeding on Mirena

I have had the Mirena since May, and ever since I had it put in I've had horribly long periods that last up to 3 weeks, plus spotting in between. I went to the dr. this week for it, and she dosen't really know why my body is doing this. She did an exam and found no reason to think it was in wrong, so she sent me have blood work to check my thyroid. That came back normal, and now I am going for an ultrsound next week. I'm kinda nervous as to why my body is acting this way. I have never had irregular periods until this. I would hate to have to get it removed because it's such a reliable form of bc, plus my daughter was concieved while I was on bc. If anyone has gone through this or has any kind of idea of what may be going on I would love to hear what you think. TIA!

I can kinda/sorta relate to your situation....When I had the mirena first put in I had periods that lasted 16+ days and came every 2 weeks--I felt like it was NONSTOP...That lasted for about 3 months and after that they just went to once a month-still kinda heavy but easier than having 2 each month LOL....At the end of about a year I started spotting for a week as a period. At about the 2 year mark I was only spotting for 2-3 days as a period.Right before I had to have it taken out I was spotting like 1-2 days as a period (if I had one at all)....so if your dr doesn't find anything really wrong I'd say see if you can "tough it out" for a little bit and see if things get better....But as always we're all different--if it's more than you can handle it might be better to try something else....goood luck....hope things get better for you....

Hi raebrown2006,

It could be that your body doesn't like having progesterone levels out of balance from your estrogen levels.
