The patch keeps falling off!

Hey Jill and Judie and others, I'm back again with a new predicament...
We had our little boy, Mason, in June/06 and I've since expelled an IUD. I think it went in too soon, so I'm weary of trying another one in fear that it will be expelled again. So, I went back on Alesse for a few months and really, really didn't like it. This month I'm trying the patch (Ortho Evra) and it's not going so hot.
I spotted all through the last week of the Alesse and then I had a regular period as well. My last active pill was on Sunday, Oct 15. I put on the first patch on Sunday, October 22 and it fell off by Friday, Oct 27. So, I put on the second patch. That one just fell off last night, Nov 2, so now I have the 3rd patch on. Everything I've read says that you can shower/bath/swim as per usual, so I had a bath tonight. Well, it's hardly sticking on there at all now, and I've tried holding and pressing it down the best I can.
I'm not sure what to do. I should still have a patch on until November 11 and then have a patch free week to have my period. But, this leaves me a week of hormones short. I don't have another patch to put on because I'm currently using a sample that my Dr. gave me (I won't be asking for a prescription!!). I do however, have a prescription for NuvaRing. Should I fill the 'script and start NuvaRing tomorrow? Should I just wait for a period and then start NuvaRing? Am I likely to get pregnant (hubby and I had sex last night)? Totally confused as to what I should do! Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Hi Jenn, welcome back!!
Thanks for your reply, Judie.
You're absolutely right. The patch does not work for me at all. I'm not comfortable with having it not work in the way it's supposed to, and who needs that worry?
So I'm going to fill my NuvaRing prescription today. Should I insert it today as well and just have a longer cycle? Spotting wouldn't really bother me, so long as I know I'm protected against pregnancy. Or would it be better to just peel off the patch now (it seems to have re-stuck overnight), wait for my period to start, and then insert NuvaRing?
Thanks!
You can do it either way, but it may reduce the likelihood of having breakthrough bleeding if you let yourself have a period before starting Nuvaring.
I was going to say that if the patch wasn't sticking that you need to make sure you place it somewhere that it won't rub on your clothing too much.
I wouldn't do both at the same time (not sure if that's what you meant).
