Anyone know anything about Apri?
| Sat, 11-04-2006 - 10:39am |
I was on the mini pill because I was breastfeeding and just got switched over the the regular pill. I asked for something with low estrogen and they gave me Apri, but I'm not sure its a low estrogen pill. I can't really find anything about it. For some reason it seems like to much estrogen kills my sex drive so hopefully that's not the case this time.
TIA
Shelly

Hi momshelly02, welcome!
From the post in our FAQs: Your pills and what’s in them.

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses.
I quit breastfeeding last week and I am starting the combinatin pill tomorrow. The estrogen is suppost to decrease milk supply, however since you have been breastfeeding for 11 months you milk is very well established so it might not. You should ask your doctor about that one.
I think I'm going to try the Apri for a while and see how it goes.

I was on Ortho Cyclen for a year and then on Yasmin for a year. During this time I had no sex drive whatsoever. I got pregnant as soon as I stopped taking it and really did not have to much of one when I was pregnant either. Now on the mini pill I want sex all the time. I didn't even put two and two together until recently and realized that it must be the estrogen that was causing it. I am hoping that it won't be that way this time.

There's more than just the estrogen difference with the minipill vs. the combination pill.
#1, there are only two types of progestin that are used in mini pills, norethindrone and levonorgestrel
#2, the doses of progestin are too small to guarantee ovulation suppression in a mini pill
#3, the estrogen in the combination pill is used to make the significantly larger progestin dose more tolerable
You may have still been ovulating while you were taking the mini pill, this means that your ovaries would have been producing normal amounts of testosterone.
