Have delayed period for three months

My doctor told me it was fine to take my BC continuously (I was on BC for over a year before I decided to do that). I've happily been delaying my period by using BC continuously for three months: that is four packs of BC I have gone through...I am on the fourth right now. No break through bleeding and only a little bloating. I also randomly take Preg. tests to make sure, though my partner and I use back-up as well. I know I should stop and have a period once I finish this pack of pills but wouldn't you know it...my period would fall right on my birthday. How problematic do you think it would be to keep going for one more pack? I would want to have my period after that pack because the bloating is probably coming from the pills. Any words of advice?

I would be taking a fifth pack (I'm on the fourth now- for a total of 12 weeks I have not had a period and haven't had any major problems). I'm guessing it is ok to go through one more pack...from now on I am planning these things a little better. It probably isn't the best thing in the world to do, as it means my lining won't get shed and probably needs to, but if I do it once and once only it is not the worst thing in the world. Unless anyone knows of other side effects of going so many weeks without a period???
As to your suggestions, thank you. But now I am rather confused. I thought you couldn't just take one week of pills and then stop to have your period? Don't you need to take a full cycle of three weeks to fully protect against pregnancy? Does that general rule of thumb change when you are on the pill continuously like I am?
Hi sweet_girl1981,
Jill
Thank you all so much, I had no idea that I could stop mid cycle like that since I've been on the pill continuously...very helpful to know. I think I'll keep going for one more pack since I've been doing so well (no breakthrough bleeding)...my body must like not having its period. :) I'll take a 1 week break after that though just so I can shed that lining, as thin as it probably is right now, and give my body a break from all that estrogen and progestogen.
Thanks again all, it is so helpful to have boards like this to post on!
