Grrr.... my ob's office!

I called and talked to the Nurse Midwife at my ob's office and asked her about fitting me for a diaphragm or cervical cap. She bascilly told me it was not an effective birth control method. She suggested Mirena and I told her I was not willing to put hormones in my body right now. She said the Mirena effected the lining of the uterus, but does not put hormones in your body like the birth control pill? I don't know. She said she was thinking about what was best for me. Considering I have 3 kids under four. And I told her we were pretty sure we were done having kids. I want to use the diaphragm or cervical cap as a back up to condoms when I am fertile. I am a grown woman and can make my own decisions. I know the risks and failure rate, and that is why I was planning on using it as a back up. It's my body and my decision! She did say it was up to me, but I feel like she was telling me not to do it! Grrrrrrr!

Hi Yavonne,

You are the one that knows what's best for you.

That is very irritating! Why do people at doctor's offices think that they know what is best for your body and your life?

Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure I won't be getting an IUD. Paraguard would be the only option for me, but I honestly think that my husband would get a vasectomy before I would agree to put hormones in my body.

Thanks, I have considered getting the copper IUD. It is like my last option ahead of my husband getting a vasectomy. But he is talking about getting it done sometime, until then I'm staying away from hormones.
