Hello Ladies -
I have been checking out the board as I try to decide if I go back to BC pills after about 6 years of being off the pill. I have been very against going back on. A few reasons.
I suffer from migraines & my Neurologist wanted me off.
The last pill I was on (they changed mine just prior to my wedding) and I gained 25lbs - I never put 2 & 2 together because I had been on the pill for 10 years. Once I came off the pill the weight melted off within weeks. I was shocked that that was what I was struggling with. I am very very nervous to gain any weight - as I am just 10 months post partum & am still trying lose 10lbs from birth.
My doc has been trying to get me to go on the pill for various reasons - ovarian cysts, latex allergy, Extreme cramping with period & ovulation since giving birth & heavy long periods since giving birth. So now I am trying to decide what to do. He recommended YAZ, but wanted my potassium checked - it was on the lower side of normal so they put me on potassium pills - he doesn't want to play games with that. So then he decided we would try Loestrin.
So my question is Has anyone been on Loestrin??? And had any significant side effects? And Weight issues? I know it it does differ person to person... Thanks.

I've been on Loestrin 24 FE for only two weeks, but so far it's OK. I haven't had any nausea or moodiness. The past 3 days I've been spotting, but that seems to be going away today. I don't think I've gained any weight.
I took Yaz for about 3 months, and that was OK, too. However it gave me bad leg cramps, so my doctor made me switch to Loestrin. I think once I get used to it, it should be fine. Good luck!
I have been taking Loestrin24 for almost two months--I have one placebo pill left in my second pack. I haven't had too many side effects, definitely not any that would make me stop taking it. I was a little nauseous the first day or so, but that quickly went away. About the second week of my first pack I had some very light breakthrough bleeding that lasted until I got my first pill period. My period lasted about 5 days, which was already shorter than my usual 7 day period, and it was a little lighter as well. My second pack of pills has been pretty side effect free. I haven't had any btb or nausea, or any other typical pill side effects. I may have gained a pound or two, but my weight has fluctuated a lot since high school, and the past few weeks have been very stressful with school (I'm 21, senior in college, and unfortunately tend to eat when I'm stressed), and also I'm not the healthiest eater, so I know that I could not attribute any weight gain or fluctuation to the pill right now.
My experience with Loestrin has been positive so far, the only negative I'd mention would be the cost, depending on how much your insurance will cover. My insurance lists it as a Tier 3 so it's definitely not cheap, I think around $45. So I may be talking to my doctor to possibly switch, but I don't know if I want to do that since I seem to have found a pill that I like on my first try. Just wanted to mention that in case that could potentially be an issue.
Good luck with everything though!
I'm on the generic pill of Loestrin FE and my experience w/ this pill has been ok. The only bad side effect is gaining weight and what seems to me like a lot of water retention. I do skip periods a lot on this pill but since my hubby and I use condoms as back up; not seeing aunt flo is never a concern. I have been on this pill for about a year and half and like I said the only bad side effect for me is gaining 10 lbs since I started last year. I do hope I don't gain any more weight. I have never had spotting or any other side effect. When I've brought up switching pills w/ my Dr. she has mentioned that Loestrin is lower than Yasmin/Yaz so I'm sticking w/ it for a bit longer to see what happens w/ my water retention and see if I can loose some of the weight I've gained. My insurance covers it all and all I pay is $10 (co-pay) so paying for my pills is not an issue.
Good luck!
I took Loestrin 1.5/30 for about four years (this was about five years ago).
Hi, and thank you....
My doc and I had a quick convo over the phone about the Loestrin.
