I had an IUD put in over a year ago ater my youngest son was born and I had heavy bleeding for a couple months after I had it put in but the bleeding and spotting has stopped. I recently started feeling just not right. I am a type 2 diabetic and have been able to keep my sugars under 200, but this week almost all of them have been over 180 and I can't figure out why. My breasts seem to fit in a bra that was too big last month. When I wake up in the morning I am gagging for no reason and the last time that happened was when I was pregnant. My fiance and I had tacos last night for supper and for some reason the smell of the one he had upset my stomach. I have also been having headaches for no reason. I know it is possible to get pregnant with an IUD and I did a home test a couple weeks ago but it was negative. I am scared to go to the doctor to find out for sure because I am not sure about having another child right now. We talked about having more kids but not until after we were married and I was done with school and had a job. I just dont know what to do.

Hi again Angela,
Jill
I think most healthy women with diabetes can use combined contraceptives (like NuvaRing and Yaz) without them affecting their blood glucose levels but that is something you will need to discuss with your doctor. If your doctor isn’t comfortable with you on a combined pill and Mirena isn’t contributing to your higher blood sugar readings you might want to reconsider your desire to have Mirena removed.
