Back to ivillage for more help...

Back a few months ago I went off birth control because I ran out. I had a period in the middle of October like normal, then had another shorter one a week later. I think it was because I had screwed up my pill schedule because of work. I was taking random ones late. Anyway's November has come and gone and I didnt get my period this month. I don't know whether to consider it late or not yet because of the whole 2 periods one week after another. I went and got new birth control, and plan to start again taking it on a regular basis but I dont want to until I get my period. I have not had any sign of my period coming, but also none of anything else. I took a hpt a couple days ago just in case and it was neg. My fiance and I have had un protected sex a few times since the last period but we have done that a few times before this instance and every time I never got pregnant. I am almost 24 and know that this is not intelligent so please noone say I am testing the waters or anything with this problem. I am just looking for a little advice if possible. If anyone knows what I should do please let me know. I do have a history of going on and off alot because of running out. Last november I ran out and didnt get another period till I went on bc again in february, then same happened may thru june. I was on it june thru october then ran out again. Does anyone think it is just a continuance of the other times. I have had many paps and test and the obgyn says I am fine, and nothing is wrong with me at all. Anyone withi insight so please let me know.

Hi again,

Thank you for the reply so quickly. I have already tried the patch but it never stayed on with the whole taking baths and showers, and it peeled off too easily. Plus, my whole family doesn't want me on that because it has many cautions and warnings. I will read more about the nuvaring. The reason I run out of bc is that the clinic will only give me 3 months at a time. I have been on several different kinds over the last 7 years. I was on levlin 28. alesse, ortho evra, then ortho tri cyclen.

Also, I have been to the hospital and ob gyn for tests, the hospital just because of my fiance's mom. She works there so I can get tests like hormone tests and pregnancy tests free. My hormone tests came back normal, and the pap's I have had all came back normal also. It cant'e be hormonal because I have the proof on the paper that they are ok. What else could it be. My period past bacically goes as followed... I got my 1st period about 4th grade. I was 9. I had normal ones up until about 8-9th grade. Thats when they started getting messed up. I would have a period and it would last for 2 months at a time. Really bad the whole time and bad clots. I would stop then start another week or 2 later for another 2 months. It was draining and painful. I went to the gyn and they put me on bc to regulate them. It did. That was about 9th grade. Kinda started again in 10th because I went to ny for 3 months and forgot to get more bc before I went so I got back on in 10th grade. The end of 11th grade is when I met my fiance and we were intimate a few months later. Right before he moved, we had a pregnancy scare. I got sick to my stomach every morning around 9 or so, not throwing up though, no period for a whole month. I took an hpt at my bf's house and we saw a faint second line. because it was faint we brushed it off. About a week later or so I got my period with avengance. It was horribly bad and heavy and had massive clots. My fiance swears to this day it was a mc. Anyways, I will finish this up.

The past few months now have been the opposite of when I was younger. I don't get my period as often as I did. Infact After stopping bc a few times it didnt come for like 2-3 months. the second time this happened I spotted for like a day when I wiped, then it was gone. I would have guessed hormones but they have been checked and nothing is wrong.

Thanks for being patient with my lengthy entry. Please get back to me.....

Hi kittie1983,

It's normal for prescriptions to only be three months long. It's YOUR responsibility to go back to your doc and get a new Rx before the three months run out - at least a week before you need it! The fact you are constantly going on for three months then going back off the pill for at least a month, it's no wonder your system can't sort itself out. It can take up to six months for a woman's cycles to return to normal after stopping the pill.

Also, from the history of your periods, there IS something going on with you, and if your doctor has exhausted all his options, then you need to seek another opinion. Just because the hormone tests were normal, doesn't mean you don't have a condition like PCOS. I would say you should look into this possibility and see an endocrinologist, who can look into this further.
