Yaz making depressed, any ideas?

I began taking Yaz bc pills three weeks ago and have been depressed ever since. My health care provider said it might take a while for my body to adjust to the hormones, and was in disbelief that Yaz could cause me to feel depressed. I am a counselor by trade and am feeling most certain this pill is the cause & I just don't think I can wait another month and a half to find out if this pill is going to work for me. The crying spells are nearly unbearable.

Are there other low-dose pills that are working great for others? I am suseptible to depression, and would like some low-dose alternatives.

Thank you for taking the time to respond!

I was on Yaz for a few months. Although I didn't experience the depression you're talking about, I had these crazy leg cramps so my doctor switched me to Loestrin 24/FE. I hated the thought of switching because I had finally gotten used to the first one, but I really haven't had any trouble with Loestrin. No weird mood swings, no leg cramps, less breast tenderness than on Yaz...I had a little break through bleeding the first month, but then my period lasted only one day! It's very low dose, so it might be worth a try.

Good luck! It's crazy what a little pill can do to your body, huh?

Birth control pills in general have the potential to cause depression and other mood problems. This is because they deplete the B vitamins, which are the ones responsible for your mood. Taking a good B complex vitamin along with the pill helps alot. It worked great for me when I was on Brevicon.

Thank you, I've never heard of the pill depleting your body of B vitamins. I do take a multi-vitamin specifically for women, and it contains B vitamins. Seems the more I think about it, the more I'd like an option that doesn't alter my hormones...

Yeah, I think natural, hormone-free methods are best. I had been on birth control pills for many years and I just recently decided no more for me. Too many bad side effects.

wow! ok...so i've been on Yasmin (basically the same as Yaz) for a year & i just decided (with the help of my therapist) to STOP taking it...i've suffered from depression since shortly after starting it. i've tried to pin the crying spells & lack of zeal to every and any thing else but the pills. (i DO NOT want to get pregnant & my skin looks great cause of those pills!) but it all adds up. i'd listen to your body & talk to your GYN immediately. good luck girl~!!!

Thank you so much for that response! I am so glad that I am not the only one to experience depression on Yaz...I am starting on Aviane soon, I hope it is better.
