Best Birth Control Over 50

I am turning 50 next month and all of the sudden very anxious about the possibility of getting pregnant. I'm in perimenopause, but still getting regular periods. My anxiety is probably related to what my body is experiencing, and also current birth control, which is not the best(condom and withdrawal). I would like something I could use with the least amount of side effects. I have been doing research on tubals and Essure, since I definitely don't want any more children. Essure sounded good until I read that it isn't that effective. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm 35 but can't have any more kids due to chronic health conditions. After almost 3 years using the IUD I had to have a tubal due to constant cysts.I didn't want to deal with periods since with the IUD I hadn't had them in about 2 years so I was spoiled LOL...I had the tubal plus an ablation. It's where they circulate water in it and "kill" the lining of the uterus so your periods will stop.I had this done in may and had 1 regular period and then the rest has been spotting and have gotten shorter and shorter to where I basicly just spot very lightly for about 2-3 days. That's a plus for me...good luck in your search and decision.

Hi monacheryl, welcome!

If you aren't quite ready for something permanent you might want to ask your doctor
