Went off depro & have questions

I was on depro almost 15 months, my last shot was suppose to be in July, and since then I have not been in any BC. So, my first AF arrived before Halloween. I had major cramps (before I would have no symptoms during menstruation) and went to the doctor's office because to me it was painful. He suggested I take ibuprofen rather than tylenol for my cramps. So, 40 plus days later, I finally had my second AF since going off the depro shot. Again, I'm experiencing cramps. I feel silly to go and get check out again if this is just a normal thing.

Anyone know? Is it also ok to have a period this much spread apart? Before pregnancy, I used to have normal cycle, menstruation around 28 days. What's wrong with me??? Is this all side affects of stopping depro?

I have heard it can take up to 18 months for things to regulate after depo, so I would try not to be concerned about the long cycles. I was due for my shot in November but am using Nuvaring now.
Good luck,

Thanks for putting my mind on ease. I didn't know depro can stay in your system that long. I just thought that once you have your period, you're back to normal.

In reference to Depo.

I took Depo after I had my son when I was 19. I never had problems with my periods before that. After being on it for several years I quit due to weight gain and stomach pains. I now at age 31 still have problems from that shot. I have breast tenderness 2 weeks out of the month. My periods are not regular. My hormones are out of this world. My joints are not that of a normal 31 y/o old they creek and pop. When I have my physical in a couple weeks I will be asking my doctor for a bone density test AT AGE 31. This shot causes Osteoperosis. WHY ITS ON THE MARKET and still being administered is beyond me. Keep taking this shot and maybe you can become a statistic and age well before you earn those precious years! This shot is not the answer I promise you for all its worth. If I could take it back I would and so would alot of other woman. As for it leaving your system..... Honestly I have the feeling that it never does. Or maybe the damage it does to your system at least makes me feel that way. Do you know what the goverment uses this shot for in prisons?

Thanks for your imput. Yeah, I stopped because the major weight gain I had while on depro. I felt and looked as if I was still pregnant!!! Ever since I stopped depro, my weight has finally dropped and I don't look as swollen as I did before. The best part, I can finally wear my wedding rings!!! Yippie!

What do prisons use depro for? I'm a bit curious now.

They give this to prisoners to lower their sex drive. They call it chemical castration. The crazy thing is that woman have the same problem with it. i guess making money was ore important to them than giving the facts. :(
