I posted a while ago that I tried the pill and nuvaring and the pill made me so sick I felt like I was on my death bed and couldn't leave my room and the ring made me not want to have sex AT ALL and made me nauseas really badly when it was the off week. I am now just back to using condoms. I've been with bf for 4.5 years and I feel its time to lose the condom. I'm sure others can relate that have been in long, monogamous relationships.
I feel like my options are limited for birth control. I don't do well at all with hormonal methods. I was thinking about the Paragard IUD but get nervous when I read horror stories about it. I am 20 years old and have not had any children yet so it might be hard to find a doctor to put one in or even discuss it. I think I would go to planned parenthood for a consult because my doctor doesn't seem to know too much about which birth control would be right for me. I was just wondering if anyone else is like me with hormonal methods and what you did about it? Or just any suggestions at all. Thank you in advance. :-)

Hi irish187, welcome back!
Jill
Thanks for the reply, Jill. :-) I have a few q's for u about the pills if thats ok...
Is it weird that Low-Ogestrel AND Nuvaring would make me sick? The pill was much worse than the ring. With the ring, I only felt sick when I took it out. Since I didn't stay on the pill long enough, I don't know how it would effect my sex drive but w/ the ring I had zero sex drive. I wanna have a period every month( I'm very regular) so I don't think I'd like Seasonal(if thats the one where u only get a few periods a year).
Does Mircette have similar make-ups of the ring and Low-Ogestrel? Like does it have higher/lower doses of estrogen or the other hormone? If its similar to the ring ingredients or Low-Ogestrel, I don't think I could take it. When I got sick with the pill and the off week of the ring, do you think it was too much estrogen? I don't know what hormone made me sick with both of them.
I mean I'm just worried that every hormonal bc will make me feel this way. I have a very sensitive stomach. Is Mircette known to be a good pill in terms of effectiveness and low side effects? I know its different for everyone but I just wanna get SOME type of bc and have it work for me. It's so frustrating :-(
Forgot to mention...when I was put on low-ogestrel, and I felt like I was dying sick, the doctor told me ' well thats the lowest dose pill so I don't know what to do for you.' Thats when I tried the ring and it made me not wanna have sex and it made 'down there' feel weird...I think it felt dry. I don't know which hormone the doc was referring to in regards to the low-ogestrel...

Hi again irish187,
Jill
Thank you so much for the detailed reply. It now makes much more sense. I too am not sure what the heck the doctor was talking about in regards to the 'lowest dose.' I am going to go to a family planning clinic to talk about the options instead of her because I didn't feel too comfortable with the doctor after that.
With the ring, I felt fine for the 3 weeks it was in. The only time I felt sick was the week it was out. Pretty much the only side effect I had while it was in was the zero libido. Not sure if I was clear on that so maybe the pill you suggested that is similar to the ring may work out? I was thinking the ring may also have really shot my sex drive was because it was right there in the area and I wonder if that had more of an effect on it. Could it be?
Loestrin24fe...would I get a period every month with this one? As I said,I would be a wreck if I didn't.
With the nausea during the off week of the ring...is that due to estrogen withdrawals I was having?
About the Alesse and Aviane, my friend was on aviane and if I remember correctly, the placebos did not have anything added to them. Considering how sick I got w/ the ring on the off week, do you think it would be a smarter idea to try a pill that has something in the placebos? Does the loestrin?

Hi again hon,
Jill
Once again, thank you for the detailed response :-) I will definitely write down the names of these pills and mention all of them to the doctor. I can deal with a little discomfort, but not enough to keep me in bed for days at a time. I think I'd be willing to give the pill(s) another shot then cuz as I read the board more and more, it seems like some people have had the same problem with a certain pill, but not another. Considering I have only tried one pill, I think I will give it another shot.
When I go to the doctor, I think I will mention the Loestrin first and see what happens. As I said, I just don't wanna be nauseas to the point where I don't eat and with no sex drive...not a good combo! Hehe. Anyways, thanks again for the detailed replies. If I have any more q's I will be sure to ask and once I go to the doc, I will update :-)
