**EDIT** Got My Tubal 12/15/06

Hi all... wanted to check back in and let everyone know how it went yesterday.

I arrived at the hospital at 5:45, got my room and changed into a gown. The nurse came in and checked my vitals and told me they would be around to pick me up at about 6:30 to take me to get my IV, talk to the doctor and the anesthesiologist. That turned out to be about 6:50 though... most of that time I spent telling my boyfriend to leave me alone... ha... it seemed like everything he tried to do to comfort me just made me nervous.

On the way to the other room they showed Tom to the waiting room and we said our goodbyes... they got me settled in and started the IV. It was my first, and really wasn't as bad as I had imagined it. I didn't feel anything after the first stick when they numbed my hand. The anesthesiologist came in and introduced herself and talked me through what we would be doing. She explained about the breathing tube they would put in while I was asleep and told me they would take it out while I was awake. I told her that I was most nervous about her part of the surgery... I was nervous about the breathing tube and nervous about getting sick. She said she would take care of that and not to worry about a thing. She brought in the nausea medicine next... had me drink a "shot" of this really nasty tasting stuff first... it was really salty. She told me to drink it down like a tequila shot, all at once, because if I only drank half of it I'd never want to finish it. Then she put more nausea meds in my IV. Next I had to inhale some sort of medicine through a nebulizer, they said it would open up my airway... they told me what it was but I don't remember the name.

They brought in several warm blankets and piled them on before taking me into the OR. It was extremely cold in there, so I was happy to have those blankets. In the OR I don't remember too much... they had me slide over to another bed, stuck monitors on me, strapped my arms to these 2 small tables on the side of the bed, right about the time I saw them putting up one of the stirrups the anesthesiologist said "we're going to give you the sleepy medicine now" and that's the last I remember of being in that room.

The next thing I remember I was in the recovery room and another nurse was asking me if I was ok, and asking about my pain on a scale of 1 - 10. I don't remember what my answer was, but I know she gave me morphene so I must have been pretty convincing... I would sleep for a while then wake up... every time I woke up she would ask again how I was doing... when the pain was finally down to what I would say was a 1 or 2 they took me back to the room I was in at first and called Tom in. I'm kind of fuzzy about how long all of this took. I remember asking Tom what time it was, and I think he said it was a little after 9:00. We were in this room until almost 12:00. They wouldn't say I could go until I'd gotten up to go to the bathroom. The nurse came back in and told me I could get dressed and checked my vitals again. Gave me a few instructions and sent me on my way.

She said the doctor didn't give me any restrictions. Just told me to go back to work when I felt like it. She told me not to lift anything heavy for a week or so, and just rest for a few days until I felt like getting back to normal. She told me I could take a shower, but not a bath, and not to be in too big of a hurry to eat a regular meal. She said to stick to bland and soft foods for the first day and eat lots of fruit. She also told me not to take the rest of my pills. So I'm officially off of them now. Yay!

I have to go back to see the doctor in 4 weeks.

When we got back there were several things that needed to be done. Tom went out to the bank for me and his mother went to get my Percocet prescription filled, and pick up large waterproof band-aids and some maxi-pads. I've been bleeding a bit... well, spotting actually. Nothing too terrible. All of Friday I had some major cramping. They said it was from the carbon dioxide gas that I was inflated with... Now I know what a Macy's parade balloon feels like. I was bloated and crampy and just plain blah for most of the day and night. About half the time the Percocet would work, the other half it wouldn't. I didn't have any pain from the incisions at all.

This morning I woke up with a stiff neck. I'm guessing it's from sleeping on my back all night... I never do that normally. I don't seem to be as bloated or crampy today and there is a little bit of soreness around my bandages. I just took a shower and in a little while I'm going to change the bandages and see what's under there...

None of it was as bad as I thought it would be, and I'm very happy that I got it done. I'm going to take the next few days really easy and hopefully I'll be back to normal soon. I'll check back in later...

Hello again... I'm taking a couple more days off of work. I was originally supposed to go back today but I just don't feel like it yet. I'm bleeding quite a bit now, I'm guessing it's from going off the pill a week early... ?

About that... I have a question. If I'm bleeding because of going off the pill early, is it a real period or will I possibly still get my period again next week when it's supposed to happen?

I've got to call my doctor this morning and make an appointment to see him in 4 weeks. I also need to ask some questions if I can get a nurse on the phone. I wasn't really given much for instructions when I left the hospital on Friday. Nothing about how long to go without heavy lifting, nothing much about incision care. I don't even know HOW my tubes were blocked (cut, burned, banded... etc.) I didn't ask before and I didn't see my doctor after surgery. I got an early Christmas present (an excercise bike) and want to know when I'll be able to use it.

All weekend I just rested, watched movies and hoped there wasn't something I was supposed to be doing...

I'm not as sore now when I get up or sit down, mostly my only complaints are the bleeding and a headache now and then. I haven't taken anything stronger than Tylenol since Saturday night...

I guess I'm coming along ok... I will definitely check in down the road and let everyone know how it's going.

Doh... that's what I get for posting when I'm medicated... my tubal was 12/15... this past Friday... NOT the 5th...

I took my last pill on the 14th.

I don't suppose there is any way to edit a post title is there?

No, unfortunately we can't change discussion titles... :( "Posting while medicated" LOL!!! That's not a chargeable offense here... :)

I'll let you know. I won't actually see the doctor again until January 9th, but I'll be back with a full report.

The incision in my navel is starting to bug me a little, but I barely notice the other one. When I'm sitting down the navel incision gets compressed and feels like needles poking me. I almost wish they would have cut me outside the navel and just let me have a scar... ow!
