Mirena IUD questions?

So I had my Mirena IUD inserted yesterday. The OBGYN didn't tell me anything before I left about what to expect, but just to call if I had a fever because it's a sign of infection. But the insertion was very painful, and I went home and took a hot bath, then went to bed. My mother informed me when I was talking to her that taking a bath that soon afterwards might cause infection. And she also told me not to wear tampons until a week after. I don't want to page the OBGYN over the weekend to ask about tampons or baths, so does anyone have any knowledge or experience they can share with me? Thank you! Hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks for that link. I had read that before posting, but it didn't address my specific questions.

My doctor told me that I could resume sex and use tampons as soon as I felt ready, which was actually that same day. He said nothing about taking baths, but I'd assume if it was ok for me to have sex that same day, then a bath couldn't have hurt anything.

A couple things I'd advise. If you're having cramps, make sure to take lots of ibuprofen. That really helped me out. I had cramps for around 3 days after insertion. Also be aware that having some irregular spotting or bleeding the first few months is normal. My first period after insertion was nothing more than light spotting, but it lasted 2 weeks. The good thing for me though, I've never bled enough to even need tampons since I got my IUD, and it's been the best birth control method I've ever used.

Thanks so much for all the links and responses everyone! I'm a week into it tomorrow, and I do feel better. The cramping is still pretty bad, but at least it's off and on now!
