Virgin needing Birth Control?

Hello Ladies,

I just wanted to know if I should get on Birth Control: I'm 18 and still a virgin, but every time I even talk about a boy my mom says I need to get on the pill. The rest of my family also says I should get on the pill. I know that I 'd have to get a pap smear to get it,so is it really going to hurt since I'm a virgin? My periods are always irregular,so will the pill help it be more on time and lighter at that.

Thanks

Well thank god I'm a research kind of girl! I'll make sure to do alot of research of what form of birth control I'll take. Now this nuva ring? I hear alot about it, but can't it come out while it's in you? What about if your having vigerous sex?You have to stick your fingers up you vagina to get it out? Sounds a bit tough...

To make you feel at ease, I went on birth control when I was 18. I was REALLY nervous because the doctor my mother went to was a male, and I was afraid that some other doctor's wouldn't take my insurance (because at the time I had very rare insurance that hardly any doctor's accepted!). I went on the pill because I was considering becoming sexually active, but at the same time, my periods were irregular and just plain off schedule. It helped me to know that the doctor should speak with you before and after the pap smear about different things related to your female health.

I was nervous before the first appointment because just like you, I was a virgin and afraid it was going to hurt. It hurt a tiny bit the first time, but truly, it was just a small discomfort. Each year, it's been a lot easier to get a pap smear because I have gotten to know my doctor and the nurses in his office, which makes the whole situation less nerve wracking.

But truly, it's up to you if you want to go on birth control. No one can force you. It is a good idea to go onto the pill if you are going to become sexually active, just for added protection for yourself. Another thing I like about the pill is that I know exactly when my period is coming so I can prepare myself mentally and physically.

Good luck!

Thanks ! I guess I'd have to get really comfortable with my body to actually stick my fingers up there! LOL This is the year 2007 now and it's going to be a wonderful year and I plan on FINALLY getting this done!!! I don't feel to scared about it since many people said it wasn't horrible. I guess I got scared when my mother told me the doctor's would BREAK my hymen.Yeah she said those exact words!!!
