NuvaRing/ Loss of Libido

I have been on NuvaRing for about 5 or 6 months now. Before that I was on Depo for over a year. I have noticed in the last few months I do not have much sexual desire, I have vaginal dryness and I have more difficulty achieving orgasm. I don't think I had this problem the first few months on the ring so I'm wondering if it was because the Depo was still in my system, as I also had shorter periods those first few months, than I do now. I read that Depo has an effect on your sex drive but I really didn't notice that while I was on it. I am thinking about going back on Depo but I know how bad it is for you and I have already been on it more than 2 years total. I would love to be off of hormones but I just dont trust myself at this point to do charting or use a diapraghm or anything. I was considering Paragard because I know it doesn't use hormones but it still effects my body so it's not totally me, ya know? I was on Mirena for awhile and I got this horrible neck and back pain and had it removed and felt better the next day. I am not positive that the IUD caused it but it worries me. I have been on the patch and felt like that made me a psycho but it was winter time so it may have just been my seasonal depression. I feel like I have tried every birth control out there and don't know where to go now. Can anyone recommend anything that will not effect my sex drive and response? And would it be terrible to go back on Depo considering how long I have been on it already?

Hi,

I recognize 2 things, 1) I used to have diffuculty achieving orgasm, funny thing is that just like you it occured after about 5-6 months of being on the Nuvaring. Now it's fine, I can achieve an orgasm easily. 2) it seems that eventhough I am being "warmed up" and my mind is totally in the mood, my body doesn't respond, resulting in dryness down there.

I just take the last "problem" for granted, cause I am totally happy with the Nuvaring

I cant deal with the dryness. I am in pain after sex! Even after using tons of lube. Other than that I like the ring, although I do have pretty bad breast pain for about 2 weeks out of the month.

I have had a child so a cervical cap is not very effective for me, right? And what about irritation from the spermicide. I had to use back up BC about a month ago because I was on an antibiotic. I used the suppository things that melt and that burned around my urethra so I switched to the sponge and didnt have much burning with that and I think it was because the sponge held it up by my cervix. How far in advance can you put a diaphraghm in before sex? Because I know we generally have sex every other day so if I could put it in well before sex, I dont think it would interfere with the mood. when I was using the backup I felt like that killed the mood to stop and stick something in me. Why do you switch between a cervical cap and diaphragm?

As far as the Paragard, I am worried about the heavy period (another benefit of depo-no periods) and cramping. And also I am worried about it doing permanent damage by perforating my uterus r causing scar tissue or something. It all freaks me out! lol
