I have the mirena inserted on the 8th of November. Had my period on the 13th. I havent had a period since then. I know the mirena can stop periods but i thought that wouldnt happen till 6 months or so. Maybe i'm just lucky? Or is it common to have a late period?

Hi niki8402,

Count yourself lucky that your not one of the ones that bleeds for the first six weeks! Seriously, every woman is different. I had irregular cycles when I first got Mirena, due to lingering effects of depo provera. The Mirena is constantly releasing progesterone, so your body is trying to figure out what's going on at the moment, and it will take six months or so to do that, but what it does during that time varies from women to women. Some women only get a period every few months, while others get none at all. And some still get one every month.

Don't worry! I had the Mirena IUD inserted one year ago and the time between my periods is now much longer - every six weeks or so!
