hello! just wondered, had been on depo for about 5 yrs, made the switch to nuvaring in september, have not yet experienced a period worth speaking of. i had a tiny bit of spotting in october, dry as a bone since...anyone else ever experience same thing? (i never had a period while on depo, but figured it would have worked out of my system by now??) thanks in advance!!!

Hi there,

Depo can screw your system up for 18 months to 2 years with it's lingering side effects, so don't panic about not getting a period yet. It could be another few months before you start getting periods again.

I am a depo veteran also...and a nuvaring rookie...Just started the nuvaring last week...My doctor told me the nuvaring would force me to have a period...Let me know how it works for you...PS Can your partner feel the ring...I was told he wouldn't but he can and it is put in as far as I can put it in...

I just wanted to add, I was on the Depo for a long time and it made my periods stop. I have been off of it for quite a while, but I am on the Nuva Ring and my periods now are only 2 days. My Dr. told me that because the ring is a low dose hormone, that my periods may stop. So my guess is, that if you haven't had a period and switched from the depo you probably won't get one, but everyones body is different you just have to give more time, good luck.

Just wanted to say that my husband can feel the ring also.. It's not a problem for us (him) but he does know it's there.. I've heard that's kind of common actually.

My BF hates that he can feel it...I read another post that someone wrote that she puts it in sideways...That might be better...I am going to try it that way...

You could always just take it out during the deed, then put it right back in afterwards. I believe as long as it's not out for more than 2 hours you should stay protected. Just have to be sure you don't forget to put it back!
