new here with a depo question....
| Wed, 12-27-2006 - 8:04am |
I am new here but I have a question. This isn't the first time I have been on depo. My first time I was on depo was in High School. I had no problems with it except weight gain. I was on it for two shots I believe. Well, then I went to the pills and I have two kids now lol. Only because I messed up taking them. Well, afer my second baby, I decided to go with the shot again because I didn't want to be able to mess up. I am coming up on my third shot and I am not getting it due to moving and not being around the place I normally get it. I have been feeling morning sickness and weird feelings in my belly. I feel just like I felt when I was pregnant with both of my boys. My questions are, could I be pregnant and when should my period come back? Right away? With my first time on the shot I didn't feel anything like that. I also don't remember taking a pregnancy test before I got my first shot. TIA

Hi,
Getting the shot in your butt is definitely unpleasant. Especially if you have a long car ride after that. There were a couple of times I had to get my shot just prior to sitting in the car for two hours, and my whole leg went numb from sitting down so long. If you tense up when the shot is administered, it makes the pain worse. I never was given the opportunity to have it in the arm, but I imagine it would be no more painful than when you get a vaccination.
Side effects - there are so many, and a number of them aren't even on the list of side effects given by the company that produces it. It is proven to cause weight gain, and caused bone density loss, which puts you at greater risk for early osteoporosis.
Personally, I experienced continual bleeding (heavy), severe cramps, mood swings, night sweats, complete loss of sex drive, and my hair started falling out.
Personally, I can't recommend anything, as I am very sensitive to hormones, and nothing agrees with me, so I don't use hormonal birth control.
You could try Nuvaring if you want something low maintenance - it's a ring that you insert into the vagina and around the cervix for three weeks, and take out for a week for your period. You can leave it in for up to four weeks if you want to skip.
