Yasmin and skipping periods?
| Thu, 12-28-2006 - 10:41pm |
Hi Everyone,
I've been on Yasmin for 4 or 5 months now. I am thinking about skipping my inactive pills this month and just continuing to take my next pack of Yasmin but I have a few questions......
First, you can do that with this pill, right? Second, when you extend the time between your periods do you notice any difference in the period (i.e., heavier bleeding, more cramping?)
Thanks for any feedback anyone can give me!
Happy Holidays,
Mary

Hi maryfranva, welcome!

Hi,
I take Yaz, which is similar to Yasmine (made by the same company). I take it to treat a severe from of PMS called PMDD. It works really well except I was getting horrible menstrual migraines that started during the sugar pills. I called my doc to find out if I could skip a few months of sugar pills to get a break from the horrible never ending migraines and she called back and said that it is (according to the current research) safe to skip for 3 months at a time.
I am on my second month of skipping so I can't tell you yet what the period is going to be like! I will update later :-)
You might want to check with your doc before you start skipping just to be safe.

Hi Mary,
I'm not a regular on this board anymore, but your question caught my eye because I used to take Yasmin 28, and I did try skipping periods on it. The first time I skipped, I had already been on Yasmin for 4 months. I just took two packs' worth of active pills in a row (in other words, active pills for 6 weeks), and it was a total success. I didn't get any spotting or anything, and the period that followed was no different from what it would normally be for me.
However, the 2nd and 3rd times I tried skipping periods, it didn't work. By that time I had been on Yasmin for about a year. The most I could do was delay my period by one week. After the 4th week of active pills, my cycle would start over and I would get a normal period, even though I continued taking the active pills!!
Who knows why my first time skipping was great, and then it never really worked again. I guess you just never know how your body is going to react to the changes in hormones. Unfortunately no one can predict for you, since everyone's body chemistry is a little different. You just have to try it and see what happens! Hopefully it works out!! Good luck,
Sara
Hi Ladies,
Thanks so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it!
I started taking Yasmin because my periods have become very, very heavy over the last year. I was hoping that I would have lighter periods on the pill and it seems like that has happened. Even though the periods are lighter they are still what used to be my normal flow, not very light. I don't know if I want to do anything that is going to cause more bleeding because before I started the pill my periods were getting to the point where my life would be pretty disrupted on the second or third day of my period. Ugh.
Maybe I'll just try adding on a week or so and see how it goes.
Thanks again,
Mary
