Hi,
I've had my Paraguard for about a year. I really love it. When I had it inserted I had no problems that some people may complain about. Maybe the 8 advils I took and hour before my appointment helped with that!!! I went back to work after the appointment. The only thing that I would have to complain about is that my period is longer now. I was spoiled before. My period would only last about 3 days, one day of heavy bleeding. Now my period is 1 day of very light spotting, next day nothing, then about 2 days of bleeding, then about 3 or 4 days of spotting. Occassionally I will have a spotting day anytime throughout my cycle. The other thing that I've noticed is that when I have aggressive sex, I'll have spotting the next day. All are common side effects I've been told.
I've had my Paragard for almost 4 months now. I'm still breastfeeding baby and so finally got my 1st AF last month. I'm due for another one anytime now. My period was probably longer (usually 5 days) by 1-2. I had a pretty heavy flow for 1-2 days and then it was more normal slower flow for another couple. It did drag on longer with spotting discharge for the remainder of the cycle. I didn't really have any cramping, which I was expecting. I had mine inserted when I had not had a period for months, and had very minimal discomfort during the procedure. I've posted a note a few months back when I got it inserted and then a follow-up post since then about it. My doc did tell me that once you get it, if you can ride out the first 3 months "you'll love it." When I got mine in, I had a slight baby-boy fever and really greived the thought of not having anymore (I'm 40, with 4 girls). But, as time goes by, and I discover new aches and pains, that seems to be improving. While I don't have the spotting with aggressive sex as PP, certain positions that allow DH deeper penetration than others are a little uncomfortable for me, so we improvise and adapt.

Hi mom_rebecca1240,
I had a Mirena for 3 1/2 years. I had it removed due to the side effects getting worse over time, including recurring yeast infections, bad vaginal dryness, acne, inability to sleep, sore breasts! However, I am very sensitive to hormones, and there are a number of Mirena users on this board that are having a positive experience with Mirena.
