Should I be worried?? IUD

I have had the mirena IUD in for going on ten months...I went from having irregular periods to having a period every other month to just light spotting every other day for the past month. Also my string was extra long because I never went back in to have it shortened after my first period and now it is hanging about an inch out of the cervix.

Is there any need for concern? Has this happened to any of you Mirena users out there?

Any info would be great.....

Thanks,

i recently had my mirena iud removed after about a year and a half because i stopped having a period all together. i like to have that reassurance every month so i had it removed.

I also like the monthly reassurance but I figured the IUD is 99.9% So I really have nothing to worry about.

But when I started spotting (very light)every other day and the string becoming shorter not longer I became worried.

What method are you using now?

Hi catmoney5,

If your strings have always felt long, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about, unless they bother your partner, in which case you could get them shortened (but beware, if they are cut too short, they can cause your partner problems from poking him). But if you couldn't feel them before, and all of a sudden you can, then you should have things checked out, just to be sure that the IUD hasn't shifted.

It is very normal for your period to become as light as it has, mine did the same thing over time (but it took me longer because I was still recovering from the effects of the depo shot).
