New to Birth Control

Hi,
I am just recently engaged and both my fiance and I are still virgins. So Ive been researching different kinds of birth control so that I can get used to it before we are married. From everything Ive read Im really considering trying the ring. The next step now is to go to a doctor. My main question is Im wondering if the pelvic exam is necessary to get a prescription. Ive never had one but I do think that they are an important part of women's health -- I just would really prefer to have the exam after I have been married. Is that possible? Everyone I know has had sex before they were married and had to have the exam when they went in for birth control so no one could answer this question for me. My other question is that I dont have health insurance or a general practitioner so im not sure where i should go. If i have to have an exam I would definitly prefer a woman doctor or gynecologist.

Hi

Actually you are supposed to start having pap smears and pelvic exams at the age of 18 whether you've had intercourse or not.
