3 weeks after my tubal...

Ok, so my tubal was 3 weeks ago and I am having a couple of issues that I'm not sure are related to the surgery or not. So I thought I'd ask for opinions here...
Possible UTI? For a few days I've had mildly painful urination... and feeling like I need to "go" constantly even when I don't. Could this be a urinary tract infection from the catheter during surgery or has it been too long for that? I started drinking cranberry juice and it's gotten much better. I've never had a catheter before, but I know I have read that they can cause a UTI, but I don't know how long it takes for one to show up. Is 2 - 3 weeks post-surgery too long?
*!!!* *ITCHING* *!!!* At first I thought yeast, but there is no discharge at all, just really bad itching and burning. Could it be just a side-effect of going off the pill?
I have my post-op check-up with my doctor Tuesday morning, but I'm hoping all of this is gone by then... I am very uncomfortable to say the least...
Other than that I seem to be doing great after the surgery. The incisions are almost healed, and I'm back to doing my regular stuff at work. I am dreading the bill though... I checked my insurance co's website a few days ago and saw the charges on there. The claims haven't gone through yet though so I don't know exactly how much of it I'll have to come up with... Hospitals charge so much, even without an overnight stay... bleh...

Hi there,
Sometimes UTIs can take a while to really kick into gear, so it is possible that the catheter irritated you enough to cause an infection. If cranberry juice is helping, then that lends weight to the idea of a UTI. You can also get cranberry pills that have concentrated levels of cranberry extract that also help.
The itching could definitely be a consequence of going off the pill. With your natural estrogen levels being suppressed by the hormones in the pill all this time, your hormone levels could be a little too low to sustain the vaginal tissues right now. You could try evening primrose oil, and vitamin E. The evening primrose oil would help your estrogen levels, and the Vitamin E would help to keep the vaginal tissues supple.
Another option would be to talk to your doctor about a natural estrogen cream that can help to stimulate things as well.
Hi
Jill
If your estrogen is low, that can also give you pain when you urinate.
Thank you all for the replies. I am hoping that we are all correct about it being an estrogen thing AND that my doctor will give me something to help out with it.
And YES I can't wait until Tuesday... I hope I can make it that long without going insane.
Well the verdict is in, and the winner is... yeast infection. I'm waiting for a couple of prescriptions right now... Gynazole-1 (cream) and Fluconazole (tablet). He said that would fix me right up.
He said my incisions look great and he'll see me again in 6 months.
Yay!
Hi Melissa,
Jill
I took the pill around 6:00 last night and believe it or not, I was already feeling MUCH better by bedtime. I used the cream then and tonight I feel fine... I hardly notice anything at all...
I like these one dose treatments... this is the first time I've used either of them.
Awesome!
Jill
