IUD and orgasms

Before I had my IUD put in, I had no problems with orgasms during sex. Once I had the IUD put in, I wasn't able to orgasm, and I thought it was a psychological thing because my boyfriend said he could feel it so I was too concerned with him being able to feel the string and not enjoying the sex, so I had the IUD taken out. Since I had it taken out, I still haven't been able to orgasm during sex. In fact, it seems like I haven't been able to feel much of anything during sex. It's like I have lost my sensations down there. Is it possible that having the IUD inserted could have done something to affect me this way?

I've not had this problem. I've had two IUDs. The first was in for a year, then out for a year, this one's been in for nearly 2 years. My partner was able to feel it, but he got used to it. I didn't notice any change in my orgasms between the times when I had one and didn't have one.

I would talk to your OB/GYN and make sure that there isn't another problem.

Hi schigh,

When I had the Mirena, I didn't have a decrease in sex drive as such, but I did get vaginal dryness. This affected my body's ability to respond to stimulation in that area, and as a consequence sex wasn't as enjoyable. I'm still waiting for things to correct themselves completely, but at least now I am able to naturally lubricate more effectively when I'm aroused.

So yes, it is very possible that the Mirena has had this effect on you. If your natural hormones haven't corrected themselves yet, then this would explain why the sensations haven't returned for you. Things should come right over the next few months. Personally, I'm finding that taking a women's multi vitamin, b-vitamins and evening primrose oil over the last 3-4 weeks has definitely helped me.
