Minipills, ovulation, and 1st PP AF

Hi there,
I just wondered if any of you might know what's going on with me. I am 8 months postpartum - our 3rd baby. I am also on minipills like I was last time, because I am breastfeeding. WIth my last child, I nursed all the time and didn't get AF back until he was 15 months old. I am nursing this little guy just as much but I am almost positive I ovulated Dec. 28. I do tend to go ahead and ovulate when on minipills, but it really surprised me that it already ocurred. Anyway, always in the past when on minipills, 7 to 9 days after ovulation I'd get AF. When I'm not on any pills, time from ovulation to AF is 17 days. I am pretty familiar with my cycles, as I used all the TCOYF methods trying to conceive my second baby. I never missed a pill, and never even took it late - we're totally stretched to the max with 3 kiddos and are done, so I took it meticulously. I plan to switch to combo pills after weaning the baby, just don't want to mess up my milk supply since he still nurses every 2-3 hours around the clock. So - I am now 14 days past when I'm almost positive I ovulated, and no AF. I got really crampy the 6th day post O, so I was sure it would start on schedule, but then nothing has happened all this time and I'm getting really nervous. Can you ovulate and then not ever get AF, due to hormonal imbalances etc. caused by all this breastfeeding and this being my first cycle postpartum?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi barbieszoo, welcome!
Jill
Thank you for your post and reassurances. Still nothing today. If AF doesn't show up by next Monday or Tuesday I may call my doctor's office, just for peace of mind, to see what they say. Do you know anything about how badly milk supply is affected by taking regular combo low-dose BCP? I'd really like to switch so I wouldn't be ovulating and worrying every cycle about when/if AF is going to show up, but I don't want to jeopardize our breastfeeding relationship for at least another 4 months or so. Thanks again,
Kristy
Hi again hon,
Jill
Hi, I am a La Leche League Trainer and yes to your question about the breast feeding interrupting your menstrual cycle--especially considering how hungry the little guy is :-)

Hi Kristy,
My son is 9 months old today and I am using my 3rd nuvaring and still bf'ing. We have not supplemented with formula and I also work and pump. I went from depo (the shot) to nuvaring and had a slight supply drop but we're doing fine. (FYI, nuvaring is not recommended for bf moms but it has a very low dose of estrogen and I am comfortable using it.)
Good luck,
Holly
